Demolition Heavy Equipment Operation


The program runs 8 weeks (Monday to Friday) 8:30am – 3:30pm each day. You must be able to support yourself for the duration of the program. No transportation is provided for apprenticeship training

If accepted into the program, you will be required to pay a classroom fee of $500 by the end of the 1st week of the Program. After successful completion of the 8-week program, you will also be required to pay a $500 initiation fee plus three months’ dues ($39/mth) to become a member of Local 506.


The Heavy Equipment Operator performs many tasks on a job site, such as site excavation to exposed foundations and contaminated soil remediation, demolish, and dismantle building and all types of structure. Heavy Equipment Operators work on many types of industrial, commercial, and institutional sites. Individuals who are suited to this trade are those who possess mechanical aptitude, good manual dexterity, an eye for detail.

The Heavy Equipment Operator apprenticeship consists of 2500 hours in total, 240 hours of which are held at the Training Centre and 2260 hours to be acquired on-site. Our training program follows the standards set out by Skilled Trades Ontario, and is designed to provide apprentices with a wide range of skills, including:

• Construction Health and Safety
• Pre-Operation Inspection
• General Preventative Maintenance
• Operate Excavator
• Transport Equipment
• Hoisting and Rigging


  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Grade 12 Education (Transcripts Required)
  • Work Experience (Construction experience a definite asset)
  • Eagerness to develop new skills and show initiative
  • Physically fit with a willingness to work outdoors
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team, and\or independently
  • A strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Well organized, punctual and reliable
